 150 subjects were selected from a file of medical clinic patients. Of these 58 agreed to participate. Spine injury patients were asked to contact a friend of the same age and sex but who was not disabled. 3 of these cohorts were eliminated because they too had chronic disabilities. Therefore the final sample included 15 respondents with spinal chord injuries and 12 nondisanbled subjects. All subjects were paid $10 for participating.
