 Non-probability, purposive quota sampling. Patients of age 65 and over of a primary care ambulatory clinic were invited to participate in a study of medical care in which they would be assigned randomly to one of two general clinics in which they would receive their subsequent medical care under close supervision, with extra attention to problems of the elderly (only in experimental condition). Cognitively impaired patients were excluded. 308 potential participants were approached. 240 patients gave their consent.
