Operationalization
Response to question "What has brought me in my present condition?" such as:
- I am no good
- I have tried my best, but others would not cooperate
- I don't know why I am ill
From a set of 23 such statements patients selected 3 that fitted their case best. Statements were written on cards, which patients took from a pile. Cards were shuffeled prior to each presentation to a patient.

Each of the statement had a precode self-blame score. The average of these scores from the 3 selected cards was computed.
